FUN PARK
it (still) is what it is
HARTMANNMUELLER INVITE YOU TO THE LARGEST AMUSEMENT PARK IN THE WORLD ‘FUN PARK – IT (STILL) IS WHAT IT IS’ AT TANZHAUS NRW DÜSSELDORF
In ‘FUN PARK – it (still) is what it is’, HARTMANNMUELLER continue to develop a decisive moment in their artistic biography. In 2015, at the beginning of their career, they created the piece ‘it is what it is’ – a minimalist choreography about isolation, work routines and the destructive power of repetition. Ten years later, the two artists are questioning their work from back then – and our present at the same time.
‘In a leisure world full of adrenaline, boundless fun and colourful candyfloss, it is the hidden things that we should focus our attention on’ is how HARTMANNMUELLER describe the approach of their new work. In a world in which an unprecedented battle for the sovereignty of interpretation of events has broken out, emotionalisation rules social interaction. As a means of mobilising the masses and as a means of power. HARTMANNMUELLER raise central questions of our time: How does manipulation – through media, algorithms, voices – influence our understanding of truth?
‘FUN PARK – it (still) is what it is’ examines the daily routine of two amusement park employees with precise, minimalist movements. An off-screen voice controls and comments on the action. But who is speaking here – and why? The production leads visitors into an exploration of hidden emotions, subjective perceptions and the question of the tense relationship between control and freedom.
